All the cool kids are doing it

Of course Micheal Peca wants to be a Ranger, all the cool kids are already doing it! According to John Dellapina in today's Daily News, Michael Peca is lobbying to be the Rangers third line center for next season. Assuming he's healthy he could provide an aspect much needed defense I've been begging for all summer. Questions are is he really 100%? and how much $$$?

Section 404-I like Peca and I think it would be good that he will be riding shotgun for Prucha and Callahan.

Mike Peca may not have much left in him and might be willing to take closer to the minimal $1 mill he would get (as opposed to the $2 mill he wants) -- he has a lot to prove having been injured last season as well.

He would compliment that third line and still knows how to hit'em hard. I welcome him to the team.

I agree, when healthy he's an excellent defensive foward.. He can PK, and for a little guy he does have a little mean streak in him... I think he compliments this line up really well...On top of that the guy has been a Captain of 2 teams.. He does have leadership skills and playoff experience that will help a great deal... Yes, his durability scares me a bit, but he's cheaper than Cullen and in my opinion is better suited as 3rd line center....

...and Cullen didn't deliver coming off of the Stanley Cup. I remember watching Cullen sharpshoot during the Cup and was thrilled when he became a Ranger.

All of last season, I did not see that same guy. Peca could only improve the situation.

Cullen played better down the stretch last year... The guy was put in a roll he dosen't have the skills for.. Slats wanted him and paid him to be a 2nd line center... Renney never played him on the point on the PP where he was very succesful with the Canes.. So it wasn't all matt's fault.. He had to go though.. He was way overpaid and with the cap it made perfect sense.. Peca is cheap and will excel as a checking line center if healthy.

I get the feeling Cullen never wanted to be in NY to begin with. At least we know Peca wants to be here. The big question remains his health which I assume will allow the Rangers to pick him up on the cheap.

I think if Pecca remains healthy, he could be a decent fit. I am not expecting too much from him. I just hope they do not pay him above minimum scale.

How about some defense…

Curious to know if Dana and/or Janine would be interested in coming on a radio talk show about New York hockey. If so, visit http://www.onthezamboni.com and get in touch with me through the contact form on the site.

Thanks!

NO PECA!!!! Peca will not become a Ranger... He wasn't even offered a contract by Sather... Looks like he'll be going to Columbus.
